Correct drainage is required for the condensate generated during heating and cooling.
HVAC systems can also recover energy from the air and store it in water tanks for later use. In some cases, waste energy can be redirected to heat swimming pool water, domestic hot water or supplement hot water systems.
Size Matters
The systems require space—sometimes a lot of it. A well-designed building envelope can significantly reduce HVAC size and capacity requirements, resulting in smaller, lighter systems. This not only frees up valuable net lettable area (NLA) but also reduces stress on structural components.
The Perfect Fit
Smaller, more efficient HVAC systems are more easily powered by solar panels. Take Passivhaus buildings, for example—constructed with highly precise building envelopes, they require minimal heating, cooling, and ventilation. In many cases, rooftop solar alone can meet their energy needs. Some even produce more energy than they consume, becoming Net Zero Energy Buildings (NZEBs).
